Breaking the cycle to create my personal gospel, my musical evangile. Balsam for the soul. I want to share it. Dichterliebe op.48, 1840, a cycle of lieder by Robert Schumann (1810-1856). From the collection Das Buch der Lieder by Heinrich Heine (1797-1856). Fritz Wunderlich (1930-1966) is the tenor who made the world better during his short life and is still making it. Hubert Giesen offers, in my opinion, the best accompaniment in Schumann that I know (and I know lots), above all in their official recording of November 1965. These four songs were recorded live (what a funny expression) on the 19th of August 1965, Salzburger Festspiele. Orfeo cd. The photos are mine. I. Im wunderschönen Monat Mai (Heine no 1). In beautiful May, when the buds sprang, love sprang up in my heart: in beautiful May, when the birds all sang, I told you my suffering and longing. 00:00 - 01:28 . II. Aus meinen Tränen sprießen (Heine no 2). Many flowers spring up from my tears, and a nightingale choir from my sighs: If you love me, I'll pick them all for you, and the nightingale will sing at your window. 01:30 - 02:26 . V. Ich will meine Seele tauchen (Heine no 7). I want to bathe my soul in the chalice of the lily, and the lily, ringing, will breathe a song of my beloved. The song will tremble and quiver, like the kiss of her mouth which in a wondrous moment she gave me. 02:28 - 03:21 . X. Hör' ich das Liedchen klingen (Heine no 40). When I hear that song which my love once sang, my breast bursts with wild affliction. Dark longing drives me to the forest hills, where my too-great woe pours out in tears. 03:26 - 05:24 Thanks to Wikipedia for the synopses. Enjoy.
