When I visited Finland, I only knew dead people. Composers Jan Sibelius and Oskar Merikanto. I found a peaceful capital, Helsinki, and people enchanted, to my surprise, by coffee and tango (passions that i share) and by dry sauna (which I hate since I prefer water and steam). Oskar Merikanto (1868-1924) composer, organist and conductor wrote, among other works, the first singspiel in Finnish but he remains popular because of the numerous folk song-influenced salon romances. We are lintening to one them, but I do not know which one. Any suggestion is welcome. Svetlana Haltunen, Finnish soprano of Ukranian origin and student of El. Schwarzkopf, is accompanied by greek pianist Dora Bakopoulou in a radio broadcast in 1991.The piano plays the role of the disgrace in this recording. The fotos, as usually, are mine. Enjoy
